About Worth Your Hour

You can’t add hours to the day, but you can buy some back. This site shows what each hour really costs, so you can decide whether it’s worth yours.

What This Site Does

Most advice about time-saving purchases is either a gut call or a sales pitch. Worth Your Hour turns it into one number: what an option costs for every hour of your week it gives back. Compare that with what an hour of your time is worth to you, and the decision gets a lot easier.

Each calculator compares products and services side by side, like a robot vacuum versus a house cleaner, using your own pay, home and location.

How the Numbers Work

Prices, lifespans, upkeep costs and time estimates come from named sources, including government data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and HUD, published price data, and surveys. Every calculator shows its methodology and sources on the page.

Your time value follows James Clear’s take-home-pay method: after-tax pay divided by the hours spent earning it, including commuting. Regional prices are refreshed automatically each month, and the rest of the data is reviewed at least once a year. Where no good data exists, the calculator says so and lets you adjust the assumption yourself.

How the Site Makes Money

Some links to products are affiliate links. If you buy through one, the site may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Commissions never change the math. Rankings come from the calculation alone, and the specific models linked in each tier are chosen from independent reviews, not by commission rate. No brand can pay for placement.
